How the estimate is built

  1. Customs value = goods value + freight and insurance up to the EU border.
  2. Duty = goods value × duty rate, but only when the goods value exceeds €150.
  3. Import VAT = (customs value + duty) × destination VAT rate.
  4. Landed cost = goods + freight + duty + VAT.

What this calculator does not cover

  • Anti-dumping and countervailing duties (origin-specific).
  • Excise duties (alcohol, tobacco, energy products).
  • Carrier handling fees and brokerage charges.
  • Preferential rates under trade agreements — these need origin proof.
Duty relief under €150 is assessed on the goods value, not on goods plus freight. Splitting an order into several parcels to stay under the threshold is treated as abuse by customs.

Questions

Is import VAT included in the customs duty?

No. Duty and import VAT are separate. Duty depends on the product and origin; VAT depends on the destination country and is charged on the customs value plus duty.

Why is duty zero for some orders?

The EU grants duty relief on consignments with a goods value of €150 or less. VAT still applies, and IOSS is normally used to collect it at checkout.

Does the calculator include anti-dumping duties?

No. Anti-dumping and countervailing measures depend on the origin of the goods and are not included. Check the TARIC measures for your specific origin before quoting.
